Environmental Stewardship through recycling
As of July 1, 2012, California state legislation has mandated that all businesses producing four or more cubic yards of waste per week must recycle in order to reduce the amount of trash that goes to landfills. This law also applies to apartment buildings. However, WRS has been helping businesses reduce their environmental impact through recycling since our inception.
Recycling Facts
- In the City of Los Angeles alone, of the 2.3 billion plastic bags used annually, only 5% get recycled. (source: Los Angeles Bureau of Sanitation, 2012).
- The number of times aluminum cans can be melted down and reused is limitless.
- The energy saved from recycling one glass bottle can run a 100-watt light bulb for four hours. It also causes 20% less air pollution and 50% less water pollution than when a new bottle is made from raw materials.
- More than 60% of the garbage produced by a person is recyclable.
